Join MMCC in transforming our community with the Quarry Park MTB Trail System!
Quarry Park: Our Vision
The Quarry Park mountain bike trail development project will be a game-changer for outdoor recreation in the St. Cloud Area and the region with 10 miles of professionally designed and constructed trails that highlight the park’s historic quarries and the truly unique landscape.
MMCC has launched a capital campaign to fund this COMMUNITY TRANSFORMING PROJECT with a goal of raising $200,000!
Fundraising Update
MMCC launched a capital campaign to fund mountain bike trail development at Quarry Park with a goal of raising $200,000. Thanks to our amazing community we have raised $124K towards this goal!
This month, MMCC and Stearns County are working on a Minnesota Legacy Fund grant to fast-forward this project - and matching funds from MMCC is an important part of the proposal. There are a few key check-ins and deadlines associated with finalizing donations for this grant submittal: June 12, July 8, July 31. The amount that MMCC secures before each of these dates will shape the scope of the grant proposal - so please don't delay and donate today!
MMCC will continue to work towards our goal of $200K throughout 2024 so that we can get this project on the ground!
The St. Cloud area is a
“MTB Trail Desert”
Trail Access for the St. Cloud Community
St. Cloud has a population of 115,000+ people, and there are currently only 9 miles of MTB Trail total in Stearns County.
Both existing trail systems are minimally developed without formal trailheads creating barriers for beginners and gathering.
Residents can access two trail systems within a 30 mile radius (14 miles and 13 miles). Both towns that have these trail systems have much smaller populations than St. Cloud.
Quarry Park’s new trails will triple the mountain bike opportunity in Stearns County.
Turning a mountain biking trail desert into an oasis, Quarry Park will host:
The only 5+ mile all-weather singletrack/race venue in MN;
Modern flow trail that isn’t available within 30 miles of St. Cloud; and
Unique rock features constructed of the local gray granite.
Beginner and family-friendly skills development zones
With so many communities in MN successfully reframing as “outdoor towns” around mountain bike trail systems, we will pull out the best elements from those places and add our own innovations to create an inviting and exciting space that is uniquely “us”.
With opportunities for toddlers on push bikes, mobility-challenged riders, young racers, families, and the hardest of the hard, the Quarry Park trails will be a year-round draw and a new star in the Midwest mountain bike galaxy.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS
Youth and Families
Mountain biking is a gateway sport for youth, inspiring confidence with each challenge, physical activity and fun. Both the expanding St. Cloud Composite MTB Team and Mud Puppies programs provide fun and accessible ways to engage youth from toddler to high school.
Tourism + Events
Trail tourism and trail-based events bolster regional economies with spending on food, gear, lodging, and gas. This trail system will also enable our community to host MN Cycling Association (MCA) and MN Mountain Bike Series races that draw hundreds of competitors.
Local Business
Trails have been listed as a top reason that employees choose a community in which to live and work which can provide competitive employee recruitment and retention advantages. Since COVID, communities that do not have robust outdoor recreation opportunity have lost the competitive advantage. This has been documented in our community with decreasing office and commercial space occupancy. Expansion of Quarry Park recreation represents an opportunity for the region to capitalize on its potential.
Community Quality of Life
Access to trails increases property values, physical and mental health outcomes, and support for conservation.
